2) To actively increase, retain and support Maori to entry level, postgraduate and continuing education in physiotherapy.

3) To promote strategies that enable the NZSP to establish the Treaty of Waitangi as an integral part of its activities.

Aims
At a hui in 2005 between Tae Ora Tinana and the NZSP National Executive, it was agreed that the overall aim of the partnership is to achieve more Maori input into National Executive decision making, leading to greater Maori influence in the physiotherapy profession, as a step towards better health outcomes for Maori.

The following strategic directions work towards achieving this overall aim.

• Develop and advance Tae Ora Tinana networking for unity, strength and positive change
  
  
• Develop and advance manakitanga: cultural guidance, professional support and mentoring
  
  
• Governance level structure and responsibilities for Tae Ora Tinana within NZSP for activity which leads to improvement in Maori Health Outcomes
  
  
• NZSP identifies and responds to the expectations of Maori consumer of physiotherapy services
  
  
• Develop and advance the profile of Tae Ora Tinana
  
  
• Develop and advance the profile of NZSP to whanau, hapu iwi and Maori community
  
  
• Advance and develop Maori Health in physiotherapy curricula.

The numbers of Maori physiotherapists in the workforce are static at around 3%, and there is a great need to recruit more Maori students into the physiotherapy programmes at the University of Otago and Auckland University of Technology.
