Kate was born in Tamaki Makaurau and grew up in rural Aotearoa. She has tribal affiliations to Ngāti Te Ata. Kate is a graduate of the School of Physiotherapy, University of Otago. Further qualifications include Bachelor of Science, with award of senior prize in biochemistry, University of Auckland, Postgraduate Diploma in Manipulative Physiotherapy and Master of Health Science, Honours, First Class, Auckland Institute of Technology.
Kate is currently undertaking doctoral studies at Auckland University of Technology investigating physical findings in patients with lumbo-sacral radiculopathy. Her current role at the University is Associate Dean (Māori Advancement). Her research is with colleagues John Gilmour and Barbara Moore at Gilmour & Associates Physiotherapy, Herne Bay.
