What should you expect at your first appointment?

At your first appointment you will be asked fill out a consent form with contact details and also giving us more medical information about you. Your Physiotherapist will then ask you more about your symptoms and physical history and complete a physical examination of the affected area. Sometimes it may be necessary for us to also examine areas that may be related to your problem or areas that may be referring pain to the area.

Following this the physiotherapist will then explain their findings and the appropriate treatment options for you and if you are happy with this, they will commence an initial treatment. This initial assessment and treatment usually takes around one hour.

What kinds of treatment are used?

At About Faces Physiotherapy, a variety of physiotherapy techniques are used. Below are some but not all options:

  • Dry Needling is rapid, short term needling to tender points or trigger points in muscles to improve or restore function. The needle is not left in place for any length of time and there may be some discomfort involved both during and after treatment.
  • Acupuncture is where needles are inserted to relieve inflammation or pain and assist with healing.
  • Manual Therapy uses skilled, specific hands-on techniques, such as joint manipulation or mobilization, used by the physiotherapist to diagnose and treat soft tissues and joint structures for the purpose of decreasing pain and improving movement and function.
  • Massage is manual manipulation of soft tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person's health and well-being.
  • Exercises may include stretches and strengthening exercises to help improve strength, function and stability.
